    Vita – Rebecca Di Piazza

The German-Italian soprano was born in Bonn as the daughter of a violinist and a sculptor.

She discovered her love of singing in early childhood through opera performances with Francisco Araiza, with whom she completed a master class years later.

She began her singing training at the age of twelve and had her first stage experience just a year later with Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. A little later she worked with Mozart’s acting director.

Her first teachers included Dr. Barbara Hebborn, Prof. Brigitte Lindner (HfMT Cologne) and Mark Rosenthal (Oper Bonn). Since 2019 she has been studying singing at the HfM Saar with Prof. Ruth Ziesak and Judith Braun. In the meantime, she successfully completed a Master of Education in 2020. Master classes with Francisco Araiza, Christiane Iven, Ingeborg Danz and others enriched her education.

She is a multiple prizewinner of the national Jugend Musiziert competition and won the Beethoven Bonnensis Competition award in 2012. Rebecca Di Piazza is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation.

From 2013 to 2017 she sang the first boy in Mozart’s Magic Flute (conducted by Hendrick Vestmann) and the role of Fire and the Nightingale in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges at the Bonn Opera. In the 2020/21 season she will sing the role of the first mannequin in Korngold’s opera The Silent Serenade in cooperation with the Saarland State Theater. In 2022 she will also sing the role of Emmy in Britten’s opera Albert Herring, also at the State Theater.

In 2024 she will be invited to Bergamo to make her debut as Lauretta in the opera production Gianni Schicchi and as Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica.

She will record her first CD in 2022 at the SR under the direction of Georg Grün and shortly afterwards will sing the solo soprano in Bach’s St. John Passion at the Saarland Days for Early Music. Since 2022 she has been a regular soloist at Bonn Minster (Beethoven Mass in C major; Haydn’s Nelson Mass; Mozart’s Missa Brevis) under the direction of Minster and Regional Cantor Markus Karas. Her repertoire includes works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Haydn’s Creation.

She is also an enthusiastic song singer. Her repertoire focuses on Romantic composers such as Robert and Clara Schumann, Richard Strauss and Hugo Wolf.

In 2024 she will successfully take part in the international Robert Schumann Competition and the Haydn Competition in Austria. In the fall she will give a gala concert in Maria Laach.

Rebecca Di Piazza is the founder of the CantEight ensemble, which aims to inspire young people to love classical music. In 2025, the ensemble will bring a modernized and edited version of Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte to the opera stage, together with young orchestral musicians from all over Germany.

    Rebecca Di Piazza (Sopran)

    Federica Stevanato (Klavier)
